Examination Committee
The Examination Committee is composed of Diplomates who have been appointed by the Board of Directors following a review process.
Members of the Examination Committee insure our examinations test the candidate's in-depth knowledge of the specialty of pediatric dentistry. Members prepare items for the Qualifying Examination and the Renewal of Certification examination and assist in the development of vignettes for the Oral Clinical Examination. Members of the Renewal of Certification Process Committee also develop Continuing Quality Improvement (CQI) modules.
They also serve as examiners for the Oral Clinical Examination.
An applicant shall meet the following criteria to be considered for appointment:
- A Diplomate in good standing.
- Two years post Board Certification at the time of application.
- If assigned to the Oral Clinical Examination Subcommittee, must participate as an examiner.
- Possess contemporary knowledge of all aspects of didactic and clinical pediatric dentistry.
- Examiners for OCE must be actively involved on a weekly basis in clinical or in academic pediatric dentistry.
- Member of the AAPD.
Retired Diplomates are encouraged to apply and participate as item writers for the Qualifying Examination or Renewal of Certification Examination.
Appointments are for a year and following annual evaluation may be extended yearly to a maximum five-year term. After a Diplomate has served their maximum five-year term on the Examination Committee and wish to serve again, they can reapply following a 12-month hiatus.

It is suggested, but not required, that an applicant for the Examination Committee have served as a Consultant for the Oral Clinical Examination prior to application.
