MISSION STATEMENT:
The ABPD certifies pediatric dentists based on standards of excellence
that lead to high quality oral health care for infants, children, adolescents,
and patients with special health care needs. Certification by the ABPD
provides assurance to the public that a pediatric dentist has successfully
completed accredited training and a voluntary examination process designed
to continually validate the knowledge, skills, and experience requisite
to the delivery of quality patient care.
CORE VALUES:
Excellence in Pediatric Dental Care:
The ABPD values the provision of the highest quality dental care for
children. Such dental care is thoughtful, careful, ethical and based
on the most recent scientific evidence. It takes into account the best
interest of the patient and their parent.
A Fair and Valid Examination:
The ABPD values a fair and valid testing process for board certification
and renewal of certification in Pediatric Dentistry. Such a testing
process is based on the most recent knowledge in professional and educational
testing. It is continuously evaluated to insure that it is of the highest
quality and accurately assesses the candidate’s knowledge, skill and
judgment. The process requires skilled, committed and adequately trained
examiners.
A Commitment to Lifelong Learning:
The ABPD values a health professional’s commitment to lifelong learning.
It values candidates’ and diplomates’ desire to practice pediatric dentistry
at the highest level and their commitment to constantly reevaluate their
practice in light of the most recent scientific evidence. It recognizes
the value of renewal of certification and continuing education for health
professionals.
Quality Assurance in Health Care:
The ABPD values quality assurance in health care through objective assessment
of outcomes and process. It supports efforts to provide the highest
standard of health care to children.
