Comprehensive Review Course Update

Posted: 12/22/2015

As we all wind down on another year, and as the annual certification renewal deadline has passed, we bring greetings to you this holiday season. Our best wishes to you and your family.

Since you are participating in the Renewal of Certification Process (ROC-P), we would like you to know that it is the goal of your Board to have a sustainable process. One, which would not be burdensome or costly, would encourage a commitment to lifelong learning, and ultimately would help to improve patient outcomes.

As part of our strategic planning (https://www.abpd.org/Content/Who-We-Are/Mission-Vision.aspx) and our commitment to a high quality certification process, we are continually reviewing the ROC-P and listening to your concerns. The major concern of the process has been the requirement of participation in a comprehensive review course every 10 years. Although we feel a comprehensive review course is an excellent review of pediatric dentistry and is extremely valuable for continuing education, the Board of Directors has decided to eliminate the comprehensive review course as a requirement for ROC-P. This change will become effective January 1, 2016. The other requirements have not changed and will be required as stated on the website. If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact Headquarters, 800-410-1250.

We will continue to evaluate the ROC-P and the certification process as a whole and listen to your concerns. Thank you for helping to improve this continuous process as we work to improve the oral health of the children that we serve every day.

Best Regards,

Cynthia L. Hipp, DDS
ABPD President

William A. Greenhill, DMD
